Postpartum Recovery In Chatham

A Message From Postpartum Recovery Expert Tejal Ramaiya, Owner of Body Moksha Physical Therapy:

  • Are you worried about whether your postpartum healing is headed in the right direction or if you’re doing things that might make things worse over time?
  • Are you worried about Diastasis Recti that doesn’t go away no matter how many exercises you’ve tried?
  • Do you wonder if it’s okay to workout like you did before having your baby or if you’re ready to run and jump and do certain exercises at home or at the gym?
  • Do you have specific questions about the changes you’ve noticed in your body since having your baby…like what to do about the lingering pain in your back, why sex hurts now when it didn’t before, will that doming in your belly just go away, why you’re feeling more pressure “down there” or if you really need to do 100 kegels a day to keep from peeing your pants a little?

If you answered “Yes” to any of these questions, then rest assured, you’re in the right place!

Many people who are struggling with diastasis recti or wondering how to recover postpartum are often told….

“Just rest” and it’ll be fine (then months later they’re still suffering…)

It’s “normal” after having babies or as you age

Just exercise like you did before your baby, I’m sure it will be fine.

You just need to do more kegels because your pelvic floor is weak.

The Truth Is…

  • Resting it doesn’t change anything. You might get a small temporary relief, but then when you get active again you’ll still be suffering from weakness and abdominal separation (I bet you’ve already experienced it!)
  • It’s not normal to have ongoing back, sacral, hip or pelvic pain after having babies or as you get older…or worse, to be peeing your pants when you’re trying to run or jump with your kids!
  • Kegels aren’t the “end-all, be-all” to healing after having a baby….in fact, not all women NEED to kegels and they can make things worse. There’s so much more that can be offered to you then just doing kegels.
  • Exercise is good and necessary to have a healthy body but there are special considerations for working out postpartum than pre-baby, especially if you’re already having some concerns before you’ve even gotten started.

“We Help Active Adults Who Are Frustrated With An Injury Or Pain And Missing Their Workouts Get Back To Being Consistently Active So They Can Lead A Healthy And Fulfilling Life”

It can be very confusing to decide exactly what you should do if you have postpartum concerns and questions about your recovery. You’ve likely heard a lot of options such as…

A family member tells you to just do more Kegels

A colleague mentions taking “the pill”

The “experts” on YouTube recommend core exercises

A close mentions wearing an abdominal binder

All while the doctor tells you to rest and start thinking about surgery

It’s overwhelming to make a decision when there are so many options available. You may ask yourself, “what will happen if I make the wrong choice?”

It’s normal to feel stuck when trying to make a decision on what to do about your postpartum concerns.

At Body Moksha Physical Therapy we’ve created a 3 step process to get rid of your postpartum pain AND make sure it doesn’t come back again

STEP #1 – WE WANT TO LISTEN TO YOUR STORY

We know the medical system can be frustrating. Sometimes you have to wait weeks or even months for an appointment, only to talk to the doctors for 10 minutes before they have to run to the next patient and you’re left sitting there wondering, “what just happened?”

Unfortunately many physical therapy clinics operate this way. They’re not attentive, they’re fast-paced and your physical therapist likely doesn’t have time to see you for multiple concerns or help you in all the areas you’re worried about.

This is why our first step is to listen to your story.

After working with a lot of people who struggle with postpartum pain and concerns, we know that no two persons are alike. Each one has a different body, a different history, and a different type of pain.

That is why our first step is to have an open conversation with you and to give you time to tell your story, so we can have a full picture of what’s going on. We want to not only understand how it started, but also how it’s impacting your life right now.

STEP #2 – FIND OUT WHY POSTPARTUM PAIN STARTED

Many women have a diagnosis, or medical term for what’s going on with their body. Maybe their doctor gave it to them, maybe tests showed the diagnosis, or maybe you found it online.

You could have been told that your only choice was to rest, avoid certain workouts or core exercises, or get surgery.

Sometimes, those things bring temporary relief, but they’re not addressing what CAUSED the problem in the first place or what can SOLVE the problem moving forward.

Our goal at Body Moksha Physical Therapy is to find the original cause of your pain and what’s keeping things stuck, so not only do you learn about your postpartum pain but how to manage it for YEARS to come!

We understand that you might be skeptical or unsure if physical therapy is the right treatment for your postpartum pain. If that’s you, feel free to give us a call below. We’d love to talk about your concerns and see if we’re the best fit for you!

STEP #3 – GET RID OF THE PAIN & KEEP IT FROM COMING BACK

This is when the big transformations occur. We develop a personalized plan that allows you to…

  • Get back to exercising without fear of diastasis recti coming back or getting any worse
  • Be able to enjoy sex, stop missing out on activities with your family, and get back to your life without pain
  • Be able to play with your kids and get back to your workouts and lifting things at home and at the gym, without worrying about

whether you’re “doing the right things”

Our best clients are those who are motivated and ready to win back their active lifestyle. (Even if they feel stuck right now!)

Shari Quinones

Dr. Tejal’s office is incredible. I came into her practice a few weeks ago barely able to walk, care for my child, or perform basic daily functions. She suggested physical therapy and dry needling. I have only had just a few sessions and I am already able to live again! I am truly grateful for the support, expertise, and dedicated care that Dr. Tejal and her team are giving me. – Sincerely, a very grateful patient!
